We love, love, love the Brand n Iron!! My husband and I stop there to eat every time we're in Yreka, which is often. The food is delish and the bar never disappoints. But in addition, the owner Penny and waite staff treat you like family. It's a restaurant you can feel comfortable and at home in. I love it when we are able to time our trips to capitalize on their all you can eat ribs (Wednesday nights) and/or Prime Rib (Friday nights). As a matter of fact, we're heading up there this week and look forward to the ribs tomorrow night. I highly recommend it.

Stopped in last night for dinner and I had the beef ribs with salad bar. Very good flavor on the ribs and the salad fixings were plentiful and fresh. My server was a very sweet lady and I received great service with a smile! Simple, old-fashion, friendly customer service with a smile and good food. I definitely recommend stopping in for a bite and friendly service.

Yreka is so small. So how small is it, Wendy? Well, we found exactly two steakhouses in town, on the main drag, and one of them, Brand-N Iron, was closed that day, Thursday. Not sure why, but good grief, what if they had a run on steak eating carnivores that day? So we ate at the "other" place. However, the following week on an auspicious Friday, we again passed through Yreka (on the way home), and we stopped to give Brand-N Iron a second chance. After all, it did have the better rating of the two.
This is a cozy, little, family diner and bar, a throwback to gentler times, and quite appropriate for a sneeze-and-you-miss-it little town such as this. Rustic interior, there is a salad bar featured directly in the center of the dining room. A quite *small* salad bar. Meals come with one trip to said Soup and Salad Bar, and you are allowed only one pass, no refills, small bowls. We discovered a tub of fresh Romaine, pickled 3 beans beets, sunflower seeds, black olives and watermelon that particular day. Honestly, I don't recall, there was probably more available than that, but these were the only items that would qualify on our Paleo style diet. You have 4 choices of dressing. Friday's Soup of the Day was clam chowder; definitely we needed to pass on that one.
The menu is limited. Mostly very simple, everyday fare such as bbq ribs, steaks, chicken, seafood, grilled, sauteed or fried foods.
They graciously adapted their menu to accommodate me. The Lemon Garlic Chicken breast was customized at my request, adding a pesto sauce topper. It was a good combination that they actually should add to their menu. It came with sauteed, herbed green beans, probably canned, but were actually tasty in a Midwestern Granny's Kitchen sort of way.
Mr.B's order was obvious once he realized it was a Friday. They throw out all the stops on Friday and feature a Friday Night Prime Rib Special, lucky us. I am guessing it was about an 8-9 ounce slice, and it had good flavor. Both of us passed on the starchy foods, i.e. bread, corn and potatoes.
Both of our meals came with either rainbow sherbet or vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. This was also given a nothankyou by us, but was appreciated.
We were very impressed that a small place like this was so accommodating, but it would have been nice if they would have been more flexible with the One Trip Only Salad Bar in our particular case. The server was very helpful and chef made a point of checking on us to see if he had followed our wishes. Thanks! -

The place looks like the local place and loved that. Food was just ok.
I had the prime rib and it was cooked rare like I like but really no flavor to it. Baked potato was just regular and yes the salad bar is small with small bowls. Husband had the steak and all you can eat shrimp. Shrimp was actually better than his steak. The waitress makes it very clear, just 1 trip to the soup and salad bar!!!! Kind of funny actually! Everyone working there was great. But, food is so way over priced for what it is. -
